School Profile

Lauder-Morijah School is Germany's only state-recognized Jewish elementary school that teaches according to Montessori principles. The elementary school is located in Cologne's Neuehrenfeld district, in the Jewish welfare center.

The elementary school was established in 2002 by the sponsoring association of the Jewish School of Cologne (Trägerverein der jüdischen Schule zu Köln e.V.). The school's focus is to provide students with a family-like atmosphere while teaching both regular curriculum subjects and Jewish fundamental values and traditions.

Overview:

• Family-oriented learning environment: Students are taught and supervised in small classes (maximum 24 children) from 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM (Monday-Thursday) and 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM (Friday).

• Individual attention: Each class has a primary teacher as well as a supporting instructor to ensure optimal support.

• Quality education: Through continuous quality assurance, comprehensive foundations are taught in all standard curriculum subjects.

• Language support: Language development is an integral part of the schedule, provided in small groups or through individual tutoring.

• Hebrew: Hebrew language acquisition is promoted from the first school year.

• Jewish religion: Following the curriculum guidelines of North Rhine-Westphalia state education regulations, Jewish religion and traditions are taught in grade-level classes for 2 hours per week. This is lived daily in school life and upheld through the celebration of Jewish festivals.

• Equipment: All classrooms and specialized rooms are equipped with BigPad touchscreen monitors. Additionally, mobile devices such as tablets and laptops are available to students in every classroom.

• Elementary string program: Children in second and third grade learn various string instruments. At the annual concert, children experience being part of an orchestra alongside professional musicians and present practiced musical pieces.

• The school provides space and time for private instrumental lessons.

• School transportation: The school provides safe and reliable transportation for all children from the greater Cologne area.

• Speech therapy: In cooperation with the Sülz Speech Therapy Practice, children can receive therapy during school hours.

• Kosher meals: The in-house kitchen provides children with varied, kosher breakfast, lunch, healthy snacks, and beverages.
